Now you don’t even need to touch insecticide in order to treat your cattle with it.
In the past, this job has required gathering and confining your cattle for either dosing with pour-on product, spraying or applying ear tags. But a lot of farmers and ranchers don’t have the suitable facilities to do this year-round. It’s physically difficult, labor intensive, time consuming and generally inconvenient to do safely.
It’s also stressful for both the cattle and their handlers. As a result, ranchers tend to avoid treating the cattle for as long as possible. But that all changed with the introduction of VetGun, an insecticide dosing gun manufactured and distributed as a partnership between SmartVet and AgriLabs.
Watch Randall Tosh, VP of Business Development for SmartVet, give a live demonstration of the VetGun:
As you can see in the VetGun demo, using the product is quite simple. All you do is drop the VetCap capsules into the feeder tube, and the VetGun is ready to use. The VetCap is a patented dosage form that encapsulates liquid parasiticides inside a special softgel capsule that bursts on contact, releasing the proper dose onto the cattle’s hide.
The gun is a precision-engineered CO2-powered device, and the way the capsule breaks into pieces results in optimal effectiveness for distribution of the insecticide. At the same time, you can visibly see which cattle have been “shot” and treated for up to 30 minutes, as the brightly colored capsule pieces stick to the animal’s hide temporarily.
The VetGun can be fired from a distance of 15 to 30 feet, either on foot, horseback or from the convenience of your vehicle.
